The educational objective of Department of Psychology is to provide students with a broad exposure to the behavioral sciences with a focus on both basic and practical knowledge used in contemporary psychological research. The department provides a variety of courses and training so that students can acquire rational, creative and positive knowledge on human mind and behavior.

The curriculum focuses on providing students with chances to develop creativity, critical thinking and social skills. Our mission is to prepare undergraduate students a career in psychology either in basic research, or in any number of professional applications to various human problems.

Our graduate program in psychology is designed to provide students with the knowledge and skills needed to become active contributors to research, teaching and public service.


Department of Psychology was formed on October 7, 1978 in the College of Liberal Arts. The first freshmen were recruited in 1979 and the first graduates were turned out in 1983. For graduate educations, the master course was opened in 1985 and the Ph. D. course was opened in 2000. The facilities of department were moved from the Liberal Arts Hall to the general lecture building in 1986. Currently, there are five laboratories in the department: Biological Psychology, Health Psychology, Cognitive Psychology, Clinical Psychology, and Counseling Psychology.

    The ability to communicate effectively in speaking and writing is one of the most important skills for educational and career success. This course gives students opportunities to discuss, practice, and eventually master the skills involved in oral and written communication. The topics include theory and practice of effective communication, making speeches, presentation skills, principles of persuasion, and writing skills.

    1. Summary of the course This course is to assist university freshmen in CRM designing to adapt university life well through the instruction and counselling of supervising professor. (This course is composed of self analysis, personality type test, career research, instruction for the success of university life, career plan and direction setting, CRM designing method and CRM designing. The course should be teaching in classes of the students by supervising professor.) 2. Course objectives This course is to motivate the students before the mid term exam and provide students with self analysis, personality type test (MBTI or TCI) and career research (YAT test). Also, this course shall has a plan to instruct the students to enhance the efficiency of university life through career and time management. In addition, this course is to make a chance for the students to have practical assistance to university life by providing study method, report designing strategy and the information on academic system and various kinds of internal programs of the university. After the mid term exam, the students will be instructed to set the direction of career designing through continuous counselling of supervising professor and the students will be able to establish CRM designing and execution plan.

    The purpose of this course is to provide an overview of the scientific understanding of human behavior and mind. Topics will include the biological basis of behavior, learning and memory, social behavior, human development, and individual differences. Throughout the course, we will examine both the basic concepts and major findings of contemporary psychology. This course is designed to help students both understand their own thinking and behavior.

    This course aims to introduce to the interdisciplinary field of neuroscience focusing on the cognitive neuroscience. This course explores the cognitive and neural processes that support 1. basic human cognition such as attention, vision, motor control and memory 2. higher cognition such as language and emotion. This course introduces basic neuroanatomy, important methods and findings related with the brain functions and cognitive processes. This course also cover various evidences from various methods such as neurophysiological methods, studies on normal human participants and brain-damaged patients, and functional imaging. The final goal of this course is to 1. help you understand the key issues and principles of neuroscience and human cognitive processes and 2. improve your critical thinking and scientific creativity.

Setting the life-orientation and search for value could be possible only through overcoming the obstacles within the environment and positive relationship with the world. But many people have the problems that the life value and the goal is misleading because of the suffering of past and future. in this course we try to facilitate a new experience by understanding the obstacles and increase an ability to emotion regulation. Life-Skills are learned by an experience of the real self and calming relationship with the world. This course is constructed of theories and practice so that the students need to be an active participation.

    Software and AI (Artificial Intelligence) course aims to educate the basic concepts of software and computational thinking to use them in various applications. It allows students of various majors to experience the core technologies of the 4th industrial revolution, such as big data, machine learning, and AI. It also introduces various applications of AI so that students can easily apply these technologies to their field of study. This course classifies the lecture types into three categories, and adjust the lecture difficulty according to the student's academic ability.
